Showreport on GCCF / Norwegian Forest Cat Club, 20th February 2010

By Mrs. J. E. Madsen, Int. FIFe Judge Cat. II

This show was a fantastic and very interesting experience for me. Thank you Anne, Brian and committee for inviting me. Being a FIFe judge this was my first experience with the judging in GCCF. It is surprising how many things we do differently in the two organizations and I look forward to be able to bring input from your great organized show back to my own organization and club. I wish also to say thank you to Mrs. L. Grant for helping me as my steward. She made it easy for me to understand the different rules. I have for the last 20 years had the pleasure of judging the semi longhair group and I find that all the breeds are interesting and in good development throughout Europe. Since the Forest Cat was the breed that brought me into the cat fancy I had particular pleasure of judging this Norwegian Forest Cat show and it was fantastic to see the number of cats, the variety of color and patterns and the high, even standard you have on your cats. It was a special pleasure to judge the Best in Show in the afternoon. The three winning cats show the quality of the breed in UK. The male kitten that became Best in Show overall had the most charming personality and expression.

IMPERIAL GRAND CHAMPION CLASS MALE
Imp GR CC HEALINGS GR CH LANDSKER YMER (TICA GR) (67 31ts) (14.5.06) a large adult male with a good body weight and medium boning and paws. He has a strong expression. You see he is an adult male by the setting of his ears. He has the right shape of ears contributing to the whole expression of the cat. His head shape is triangular. The calendar tells us and also the condition of his coat gives us a hint that spring is getting close. His coat is not in top condition right now and I would have liked to see a bit coarser quality. The quality is a bit. It was a pleasure to handle this male who despite his size and expression had a wonderful gentle character.

IMPERIAL GRAND CHAMPION CLASS FEMALE
Imp GR CC HERMON GR CH AFDURLO AISLING (67 31t) (16.04.2004) what a wonderful mature female. She has a classic Forest Cat expression and large well placed ears with fine shape. The coat has excellent volume and fine distribution of shorter and longer hairs to underline the correct silhouette of the breed. I would like to see more pronounced guard hairs to enhance the coarseness of the coat. handle her. The head shape is triangular and the chin very strong so you have to watch out for the development of under bite that we see more and more often in cats with very strong chins. The body is medium long and also this female had a fine personality and it was a pleasure to handle her.

IMPERIAL GRAND PREMIER CLASS MALE
Imp GR PR JONES & HEALING GR PR JARRAHKATT BLUES SHADOW (67 31) (13.10.00) a ten years old neutered boy. Fantastic personality he surely knows what is expected of him at a show. He has a long body with high legs and a lovely long tail that fits the body well. He is a cat with fine over coat. Despite his age the guard hairs have the right quality and there are plenty of them. He is still a rather elegant cat but he is well balanced all over. It is great to see that also the older cats are great representatives for the breed.

IMPERIAL GRAND CHAMPION CLASS FEMALE
Imp GR PR COWARD GR PR NORDLYS GAZELLE (67 15) (31.03.05) again a large and strong female with excellent balance of body, legs and paws. I would like to see a larger head to her strong body. The overall lines of the head are fine. I noticed some smaller details as a little pinch and the forehead that is a bit flat. Her ears are excellently shaped and placed so they follow the outer lines of the triangle. Lovely shape of her eyes. Black cats are difficult when it comes to expression since light is not reflected easily but this sweet female in magnificent show condition is very typical for the breed.

A blue, adult male with large and strong body and paws. He has a lovely personality and even better grooming would make him more striking.

35 A.C. Siberian or Vankedisi Breeders Adult - Two breed typical Sibireans in this class. A great opportunity to see this breed as well.

Radzunuerz Tanara

A fine, blacktortie mackerel tabby, medium size female with excellently developed coat and coat texture. She is a well balanced cat with an overall rounded appearance.

55a A.C. Norwegian Forest Breeders kitten – A tough class with top quality kittens

1st  place

This is a female kitten that can compete at any show anywhere. There is no need to write anything since she corresponds excellently to the written standard of the breed. Congratulation to the breeder and owner of this fantastic black smoke female kitten.

Tiganlea Mistress EstelleForestmist Sanari

Again a fantastic kitten. Promising with great expression and long tail. She is in fine development.

55b A.C. Norwegian Forest Breeders Kitten – Lovely to see the quality of the new generation of Forest Cats

1st  place
Tiganlea Dame Felicia

A large, strongly built, high legged blue female from September last year. She had a fantastic coat and fine lines in her head. A promising breed and show cat for next generation.

Adnilo Freia

A black mackerel tabby female with white. She has high legs very long tail and large ears. She still need some maturing of the lines in the head.

56 A.C. Norwegian Forest Kitten (not bred by Exhibitor) – Lovely cats that it must have been difficult for the breeder to part with.

1st  place
Noynarock Prince Tyrone

He is a big, strong and promising lad with large ears and classic Forest Cat expression. Looking forward to see how he develops.

Volsung Vicki Viking

A beautiful large and strongly built female neuter. She is blackmackerel tortie. Her large tufted ears fit perfectly the strong triangular head.

3rd place

Noynarock Augustus

A big, strong neuter with very straight lines in his head and large ears. He is not in top show condition right now

74a A.C. Norwegian Forest Neuter (not bred by Exhibitor) – A winning trio of large males

Noynarock Xanadu

This male neuter is a large excellently built cat. His coat is shining and has perfect quality. A wonderful representative for the breed.

2nd place

Norskmagi Tavaris

Blacksilver and white male neuter. He is strong and harmonic built with excellent volume of her coat. The short coated ears is disturbing the expression a bit

3rd place

Tiganlea Lord Ferdinand

This Blacksilver/white male is very big and has a strong body and high legs. The very big body makes it difficult to be in total harmony and have an ear size to fit

1st  place
Forestshadow Conan

A black makereltabby white neuter with large strong body and classic Forest Cat expression. A harmonic developed younger cat that just has to broaden out somewhat in the head in order to create total harmony

2nd place

GR PR Nordlys Gazelle

This black female neuter is in fantastic show condition. She also has a fantastic personality that has to impress everyone who get the chance to handle her.

3rd place

Snowcape keys

A medium strong very harmonic built red mackereltabby and white male who does a very good job at the show bench

102 A.C. Norwegian FOREST Adult Male Norwegian Forest Cat Club - A large class with 8 males

2nd place

Noynarock Mika

Again a large harmonic and strong male. Expression is not totally alert due to the broadness of the nose bridge towards the nose leather

Big, harmonic, promising young male. Not in top presentation and condition today.
